| On the evening of December 22, Hunan Provincial Governor Zhou Qiang met in Changsha with Professor Shing-Tung Yau and his companions. Professor Shing-Tung Yau is a famous ball screw Chinese-American mathematician. This time he paid a special trip to Hunan to deliver lectures for the Ninth Graduate Lushan (Yuelu Mountain) Forum of Hunan Normal University. Governor Zhou extended his welcome to Professor Shing-Tung Yau. He stated that in recent years, Hunan has given full play to its own advantages and vigorously strengthened the building of basic disciplines and the cultivation of talents, and thus has yielded a large number of outstanding personnel led spotlight for China and other countries. At present, Hunan is in a period of accelerating development, and therefore requires substantial talented personnel in mathematics and other basic subjects. He hoped that the professor’s visit would effectively strengthen the cooperation between Hunan and the United States in education development, personnel training and other spheres, and also promote cooperation and exchanges between Hunan’s higher education institutions and world-renowned universities abroad. Shing-Tung Yau expressed his willingness to provide support to Hunan in the development of mathematics and other basic education areas and to offer help to Hunan’s young students seeking to study abroad. He seeks to inspire young people’s interest in learning mathematics and cultivate academic talent for the sake of this province’s economic and social development. |
